A relaxing – school work – day

Kids did homework, I finished the painting of a garden bench, and we all went fishing (squid success); and took a picture of “our” beach. . .

Fishing is soooo much fun

Yesterday, we went fishing for squid and for fish. I wanted to try to fish for squid because none of us had ever done that before. I put the hook in the water slowly and stood there, trying to stay warm. It was not more than 5 minutes when a cloud of something black appeared near my bait.

‘Is that, ink?’ I asked myself.

“Lost the bait, again. I think I am going to go fish for squid.” I heard mom say. As hard as it was, I didn’t look up. Something white startled me. A squid! It was heading towards my bait. It came near and I yanked. A little too early. It swam under the dock. Then it came back at full speed this time. I felt a shiver run up and down my spine. I saw the line sink in the slightest bit and I yanked it again this time as hard as I could. I slowly pulled the string up and yes there it was.

“I got it I. I got the squid, I screeched with joy. A man had walked up wile I was catching the squid and congratulated me. He pulled of the squid and put it on the dock. It squirted some ink at us and soon realized that it was no use. The color drained out and died. It got to the point when it was a little to cold so we said good-bye to the man and went home. At home, as an appetizer, guess what we has… yes, squid. Dad and I got too cook it and taste it first. It was the best. Way better than any deep fried or other squid, this one was hyper fresh.

To me, its beginners luck. I got this when I was fishing too.

In the evening, Alicia caught a squid – cleaned and cooked it- yummy!

How spoiled can one be? Are there nicer beaches?

Great relaxing day – playing around the house, bit of fishing, drinks and practically private beaches….

Kangaroo Island – Heaven on earth – quaint and idyllic

A bouncy ferry ride to Kangaroo Island, but worth it soooo much. Arrived in the beach house which has more character than the author of this post ;-).

Went Kangaroo spotting, and saw 100+, enjoyed a drink on the ‘private’ beach…. Life is good!

(challenge: find the real life kangaroo in the picture where we are standing in from of the sign. Trust me there is one there!

Touring the Barossa Valley

Nice drive today with the family; wonderful views, beautiful vineyards, and wine houses, nice local towns. We drove along the edge of the bush fires from yesterday (still smelling and smoking)…

Nice drive into town, visited the South Australian Museum, from there to Penfolds (winery) and then over the mountain tops for excellent Koala spotting (we spotted more then a dozen).

Adelaide – avoiding the bush fires….

Staying in a great place, bush fires keep us local – eating at the Pannekoekenhuis: Poffertjes, Broodje Kroket, Uitsmijter, Frikandel Speciaal en Bitterballen.

The day today

Today we went to the museum. We also went koala spotting.

The museum:

Dad wanted to see some aboriginal art. He had found the Art museum on the Internet but we did not find it, but we only realized that after we were done and driving out. Instead we went to a museum called South Australia museum. There, they did have aboriginal things, but that was at the beginning. The rest was very much like animals. They had a giant squid that went up 4 whole stories (it was a mannequin, of course). Not the thing you want to meet in the wild. They also had at leas 100 different kinds of boomerangs and like 1,000 weapons. They had one hall that had wild animals from Europe to Africa and to well… many other places.

Koala spotting:

I wanted to see a koala, in the wild. I had carried a koala, in a wildlife habitat, but seeing one in the wild, that was something else. I finely figured out what it was, not many people look for them, so not many people do see them. We got to see 15, at least. Our favorite one, I spotted. There were three reasons why. One is we did not have to turn around, two there were no cars behind us so we could see it very well, and three, the best of all, it was STRAIGHT over out head. It was awesome.

So yes, a WONDERFUL day is what we had.
